How does a giraffe get to work?
*** Have you ever wondered how a giraffe gets to work? Read on and you will find out – the following poem was inspired by Darren Fidler and penned by Christopher Llewelyn. For those of you who are parents of young children, I’d suggest reading them this poem to help them understand how a multi-modal transport system is able to meet the needs of a relatively diverse range of “customers” 😉 *** It’s a little known fact, but definitely true,
The animals only work at the zoo.…
Fran O’Sullivan on the Unitary Plan
Ok so while the Unitary Plan submission period is over and I intended on not writing about it for a while, I really couldn’t go past a piece in the Herald today from Fran O’Sullivan. She seems to have picked up many of the points that we, and others have made.…
Submissions close, now its time to relax
Yay, the submission period for the Unitary plan is now over and we now have a long weekend so it’s time to relax. With over 14,000 submissions, I’m guessing that the council staff who have to read through them all be needing to relax as much as possible right now.…
Unitary Plan Submission period almost over
With less than four hours to go before the submission period on the Draft Unitary Plan closes I thought we would do one discussion of news on the plan as well as a reminder to get your submission in.

Understanding changing travel trends

End of the line for Waitakere
Patronage on the Auckland rail network has taken off over the last decade, rising from around 2.5 million trips a year in 2003 to 10 million now as a result of investment. However we have been noticing that not all growth has been equal.…
AT starting to address our concerns about CRL comms
We have been fairly critical of the attempts at communication that Auckland Transport have done to date on the CRL. The biggest problem being that there they have been underselling the project with vague comments about the benefits while also not doing anything to address some of the common misconceptions about the project.…
Locals still opposing Skypath
One of the most exciting potential projects at the moment has to be the Skypath. The project that hopefully will finally provide access across the harbour for the two key missing modes, walking and cycling. Since they hit the news again earlier this year, the trust behind the project have been conducting consultation with the local residents associations and local board on either side of the harbour as well as the West Haven Marina users to work through any potential issues.…
More developments going ahead
We’ve all heard about the housing problems that exist in Auckland (and other parts of NZ). While everyone might have different views on how to do it, at least everyone at least agrees that it is important we build a lot more homes. …
Hi John …
*** I recently wrote this post on the National Government’s LTMA Bill, which is currently before parliament. One of our readers felt sufficiently motivated by issues with this Bill to submit the following letter to his local National MP, in which he outlines his concerns.…
