Do we have enough trains?
The new electric trains have by in large been a fantastic addition to Auckland. This is not to say that there haven’t been implementation issues however they are things that I expect Auckland Transport, Transdev, CAF and Kiwirail will iron out over time – though perhaps not as fast as we’d all hope for.…
Tauranga Eastern Link complete
Yesterday the Prime Minister John Key and Minister of Transport Simon Bridges officially opened just the second Roads of National Significance to be completed – the $455 million Tauranga Eastern Link. All up the project is 21km long from Te Maunga in Tauranga through to Paengaroa, bypassing Te Puke along the way although it doesn’t actually open to the public until Monday.…
Wynyard Quarter’s fourth birthday
Given how successful it’s been and how cherished it already is by Aucklanders, we often forget Wynyard Quarter is only four years old. After years of planning and construction it opened to the public in August 2011 just before the Rugby World Cup and has been one of Auckland’s and New Zealand’s exemplar urban projects.…
Guest Post: Why Northcote’s Residents are wrong about Aucklanders parking at Skypath
This is a guest post from our friends Niko and Emma from Generation Zero

A trend I and others have been noticing lately is an ever increasing number of vehicles parking on the kerb or footpath – and it’s really starting to annoy me. It ranges from a couple of tires up on the edge of the kerb to full blown parking over footpaths and blocking pedestrians.…
A Random Assortment of Charts
A random assortment of charts from data that I regularly collect but which don’t often warrant their own post.
That downward spike in fuel prices a few months ago didn’t last too long Average traffic volumes over the harbour bridge are up slightly – an increase of 0.9% over this time last year – but still below what they were a decade ago.…
Catchies
Our friends at MRCagney have created a few really neat tools recently – including this taxi cost calculator – and now they’ve created another one. This time looking at the pedestrian catchments of all of Auckland’s train/busway stations and ferry terminals.…
Supply and demand and regional airfares
Back in June, Stuff published a report on regional airfares, focusing on the way that prices are affected by major events such as concerts and sports competitions. Now, I’m no airline economist, but I’ve got a general interest in transport pricing so I figured that it would be worth taking a look at the topic.…
Otahuhu Bus-Train Interchange design
In my post about the AT board meeting last week I highlighted that construction of the Otahuhu Bus-Train Interchange station is currently out for tender. This interchange is crucial to enabling the new network for South Auckland to be rolled out
The AT website contains a few new images of what’s proposed for the site and which are different to what we’ve seen before.…
