  • willingly provided by agencies or individuals as the owners of the intellectual property, or
  • supplied to contributors under the provisions of the Official Information Act or Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act, or
  • original research.

Please note that opinions expressed in posts are those of the individual authors.

Comment Guidelines

Greater Auckland has a long history of thoughtful contributions from a knowledgeable and engaged community of readers. We enable comments on our articles to help foster informed discussion of transport and urban issues.

Everyone is a guest here: please treat each other with respect. We encourage posting under your own name or a regular nom de plume, for consistency. We reserve the right to moderate discussion, to ensure it stays polite, evidence-based, constructive and on-topic.

Comments should be all your own work: no plagiarism, no generative AI. Likewise, please avoid ad hominem arguments, sales pitches, unfounded claims, off-topic digressions, etc. Let’s keep it real, positive and productive.

Note: First-time contributors require manual approval, so comments may take a moment to appear. The occasional genuine comment may be caught up in our filters. Please contact us with any issues, questions or alerts if something doesn’t seem right.

Thank you for helping make Greater Auckland a friendly and illuminating place, where all kinds of voices can join the conversation about making our city as great as it can be.

Guest Post Guidelines

We welcome guest posts that align with our vision and fit the following broad guidelines:

  • Topics: Timely and engaging takes on cities, transport and urbanism in general, with Auckland/ Tāmaki Makaurau as a primary focus. Not sure? Browse our archive, or send us a query.
  • Length: 1000 to 1500 words is the sweet spot, but we’re flexible.
  • Images: Ideally three or more images, with captions and sources. Landscape orientation preferred.
  • Audience: Our readers range from intrigued amateurs to experts in the field, so it helps to spell out acronyms, explain key concepts and link to relevant articles.
  • Opinion vs evidence-based: We publish both opinion pieces and evidence-based articles. We ask you to make a clear distinction between evidence-based information and your own opinion, and to identify key sources.
  • Your own work: Our own articles are human-authored, and we request the same of guest writers. We will not knowingly publish AI-generated posts, and the same goes for plagiarised material. This is an honour system: we’re trusting you to help us keep it real! To that end, we may ask you to provide a statement on your use of LLMs, and to confirm that you have written any proposed article yourself.
  • Re-posting / cross-posting: We are happy to host material already published elsewhere (online, book extracts, etc), providing you have the rights to share it.
  • Edits: We may make minor edits if needed, and will work with you if larger changes are required.
  • Comments: We enable comments on all posts to encourage engagement. As per our guidelines, this should be evidence-based, constructive and respectful. We can moderate discussions as needed to ensure they stay civil and on track.

Once scheduled, articles appear on www.greaterauckland.org.nz and are shared automatically on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages, and manually via Bluesky. You’re welcome to share via your own channels as well.

Queries and proposals should be sent to: admin@greaterauckland.org.nz. And thanks for your patience as we work through our inbox and publishing schedule!
