Flashback Saturday – Farnham Street residents looking at each other down the barrel of a gun
Every weekend we dig into the archives. This post by John was originally published in September 2016, which isn’t really that long ago in the scheme of things, compared, say, to the length of the career of John Farnham (caution: this post contains multiple references to John Farnham). …
Weekly Roundup 13-Dec-19
Here’s our weekly collection of smaller pieces. Road Funding
The discussion about how much money we spend on roads has been high on the agenda this week, particularly in the wake of the government’s announcement they’ll be investing $6.8 billion extra in transport over the coming years.…
Time for a Transition Fund?
With the government’s books looking healthy, about two weeks ago they announced they’d “significantly increase spending on infrastructure”. Yesterday they gave a bit more detail about that:
The Government is lifting capital investment to the highest level in more than 20 years as it takes the next step to future-proof New Zealand.…
Bus to the Beach
This is a guest post by regular reader, Minnie. Route 66, as well as having a very cool name, is one of the signature bus routes of the New Network. It stretches from Coyle Park in Pt Chevalier to Sylvia Park, and nominally runs every 15 minutes*.…
Wellington rail upgrades underway
Wellington’s Rail Network has been seeing some good growth over the last few years with usage rising from just over 12.1 million in October 2015 to just under 14.5 million in October this year. You can see from the above photos how “out of place” the interchange is with its surrounding area.…
Weekly Roundup 6-Dec-19
Here’s the roundup of some of the things we didn’t yet cover this week.
Dogs on Trains
Back in June Auckland Transport started trialling allowing pets to travel on trains in a three-month trial. However, the rules were that animals have to be “enclosed in suitable pet carriers that are small enough to be held on the owner’s lap or stored under the seat”.…
Consultation Crunch 2.0
For the second year in a row, there is a rush on to get a heap of consultations completed right before everyone heads off for summer holidays – some of which were likely delayed from earlier in the year due to the elections.…
Planning for Air Travel
This is a guest post by Paul Callister and Wallace Rae.
As Auckland transitions from an ‘overgrown town’ to a ‘world-class city’, it faces many challenges. These aren’t just related to liveability concerns from our sprawling land use and high car dependency.…
