Observations from Urban-cycling Nirvana
This is a guest post by Marita Hunt.
The cycling infrastructure in Copenhagen is, as we all know (well, we transport and urban design nerds), fundamental to the city’s transport system. Bikes are treated as a completely normal and sensible way to get around, and space is made for cyclists in every corner of the city.…
Sep & Oct-19 Ridership
It’s been a while since we last talked about what’s happening with public transport ridership and cycleway use so this post will cover the high-level results for both September and October. For PT we won’t see the more detailed breakdown of the numbers until the next AT board meeting in December.…
The Southwest Gateway Programme
Improving access in the Southwest but also including connections all the way up to Botany is one of the key areas our transport agencies are focusing on right now through a programme called the Southwest Gateway. There are already some early works for this with a significant upgrade of Puninui Station already underway and there are other works to come such as priority lanes on SH20B.…
Walking the CRL tunnels
Yesterday City Rail Link held their ‘Walk the Tunnels’ event for those lucky enough to get tickets. Thanks to some generous readers I managed to get some tickets and went along for a visit so thought I’d share some of my photos for those that didn’t manage to make it through.…
Flashback Sunday – Isolated in the quarter-acre pavlova paradise?
Every weekend we dig into the archives. This post by Peter was originally published in June 2015.

There is increasing discussion about the moving the Ports of Auckland to Northland with the latest report on it being shared with cabinet ministers.
Cabinet ministers now have a copy of a report urging the government to move the Auckland port up north, but say no final decisions have been made.…
Getting the little things right – some insights from Japan
This is a guest post from reader Malcolm M and follows on from his earlier post here.
While transport public transport authorities in the English-speaking world pattern themselves on the successes (and failures) of British policies, perhaps a better model would be look to Japan, particularly in getting the little things right.…
AT finally looking to fix the Outer Link
The Link routes are unique in Auckland in that they’re some of the few cases where AT try to put any effort into creating and marketing a public transport brand. But while the brand has strong recognition, the experience leaves a lot to be desired, most noticeably the Inner and Outer links which due to their loopy nature, are unreliable with buses often end up bunched together and having long pauses at places like Victoria Park.…
