MoTs changing view on the CRL
A piece by Todd Niall at Radio NZ has highlighted just how much of the advice the Ministry of Transport has changed about the City Rail Link and disturbingly that the advice they’ve given in the past has been far from neutral.…
AT February Board Meeting
The first full AT board meeting for the year is today and as usual I’ve trawled though the reports to find the things I find interesting – there may be stuff I haven’t covered that you find interesting so if you do, post it in the comments.…
Bus strike thoughts
Our transport agencies and media spent much of the last week working themselves up about the strike by bus drivers affecting around 70% of Auckland’s buses. Traffic would be terrible they said, it’s going to be carmageddon.
Then Friday turned up, the bus drivers went on strike and for many the opposite happened.…
ATAP Foundation Report
For many years now one of the biggest areas of difference between the government and the council has been in the area of transport. Nowhere was this more apparent than with the City Rail Link where the government dismissed the project for years until it became politically untenable to continue doing.…

Unitary Plan rezoning: fact-checking vs fears

It will also likely have a significant impact on patronage with some estimates suggesting that more than 130,000 trips will be impacted. To put that in context last February there were just under 6.7 million PT trips in February so this could impact patronage in the month by as much as 2%.…
Bus Strike Maps
With bus drivers set to strike tomorrow and throwing travel for thousands into potential chaos it’s worth remembering that not all buses are affected. After my post was published yesterday AT published a list of all routes affected. You can see them here:

Transport for future urban growth
While debate rages on about allowing more housing within the existing urban area, the other side of the development coin is also being progressed with the council planning for over two Hamilton’s to added to our urban fringes in the North, Northwest and South.…
Quay to the Waterfront coming soon
In just a few weeks Auckland Transport will start construction on a separated cycleway on Quay St and even better news is it will be completed by the end of May. The cycleway which will run for about 1km from the intersection with Hobson St through to Plumber St will cost $2m and AT want to get it in place before the main CRL works start.…
