Submit on Quay St
Just a quick reminder, tomorrow is the last day for submissions on Auckland Transport’s proposal for a cycleway on Quay St. Time is running out to have your say on the Quay St Cycleway with public consultation closing this Friday at 5pm.…
Fletcher Building on housing
Fletcher Building is the biggest construction company in New Zealand, and a major home builder, so it’s worth keeping an eye on what they say about their residential business and the market. They recently gave a presentation on this.
Fletchers are now established in the “high density” market, having built several apartment buildings at Stonefields in a joint venture with Todd Property.…
AT December Board Meeting
Next week is the last AT board meeting for the year and comes only three weeks after the last meeting. As it’s a bit earlier in the month the PT numbers aren’t available yet however the board report is. The post below are the items from the reports that I personally find interesting.…
Encouraging teens to drive?
An interesting development from the government, allowing students to get NCEA credits for getting their drivers licence.
School students will be able to get NCEA credits by obtaining a driver licence – and will even pick-up credits for passing a learner’s theory test.…
Central & East New Network consultation closes tomorrow
Tomorrow is the last day to submit feedback to Auckland Transport on the new bus network for central and east Auckland. You can see some of my thoughts in this post from when the consultation was launched. The maps for each are shown below (click to enlarge) One reason it’s important to submit if you have a view is that there are bound to be many submissions like the one below.…
Why I’m optimistic New Zealand can solve its housing troubles
What’s the problem?
Housing is expensive in New Zealand, especially in Auckland, where median house prices have increased fivefold since the early 1990s (in nominal terms). Roughly half of this increase has occurred in the last four years, which is causing quite a bit of concern: Housing markets are complex – prices are influenced by both demand-side and supply-side variables.…
Ellerslie Motorway noise to reduce
Back in 2012 the NZTA cut back the back the platform at the Ellerslie train station by 2m to give themselves enough space to build a fourth northbound lane from Ellerslie Panmure Highway just north of the Main Highway bridge. The NZTA are currently working on stage 2 which is the creation of that lane.…
Panuku priority development areas confirmed
The council’s Development Committee have confirmed the areas where Panuku Development Auckland will focus on with Manukau and Onehunga the first to be focused on. This should hopefully see some of the great place making that is making Wynyard a fantastic place spread to more locations.…
Aucklands highest risk urban intersections
Intersections are dangerous places, between 2008 and 2012 46% of all road deaths or serious injuries in urban areas across New Zealand occurred at an intersection and in total 158 people died. Recently reader Mike George asked what the most dangerous intersections were in NZ after he’d seen it looked at in the US.…
Queen St open for people
At the Santa Parade just over a week ago one thing I was extremely happy to hear was that Auckland Transport left Queen St open for people for a few hours after the parade instead of squeezing thousands back on to the footpath so the road could be reopened to what would have been a significantly fewer vehicles like they’ve done in previous years.…
