Alert to Changing Default Speeds
Yesterday, Auckland Transport announced:
New and safe speed limits on more than 600 roads across Auckland will come into force from 30 June 2020 onwards.
In an email they also advised:
This tranche will be completed by November 2021.
It’s a huge relief that these changes bringing in safe speeds have not been cut in the emergency budget.…
Weekly Roundup – 29-May-2020
Here’s our weekly roundup. Off-peak fares
We’ve long suggested that Auckland Transport should introduce discounted off-peak fares and now they’re doing just that, for June at least.
Auckland Transport is discounting fares on buses and trains to encourage more people to travel during the day and at night.…
Improving our central isthmus corridors
One of the most important projects Auckland Transport has on its books right now is Connected Communities, formerly known as the Integrated Corridor Priority Programme. This is something we’ve talked about before but here’s a recap of what the Regional Public Transport Plan says about it:
Auckland has constrained arterial corridors and there will be trade-offs to be made around competing uses including general traffic lanes, cycle lanes, parking and median strips.…
COVID transport impacts
COVID-19 has undoubtedly had a massive impact on our transport networks and the lastest data shows just how significant that has been. Although in most cases the raw numbers themselves don’t tell the full picture.
Roads
Waka Kotahi have been publishing weekly data on traffic volumes.…
Fighting for scraps on accessible streets
This post was contributed to by a number of people.
The government is currently consulting on the Accessible Streets Regulatory Package, a bundle of rule changes designed to enhance the safety of people using footpaths, bikes, scooters and other active transport modes.…
Priorities on display
Yesterday Auckland Transport removed a section of temporary cycleway on Tamaki Dr, despite only days earlier quoting a 91% increase in the number of bikes on their counters.
In a response to Waitemata Local Board member Graeme Gunthorp they said they removed it because of an increase in trucks and safety concerns and as such, cyclists would need to once again share the narrow shared path with pedestrians.…
City Centre Masterplan now online
On Friday, the council published the newly refreshed City Centre Masterplan that was consulted on last year. That the council had already done so much work on it has also clearly had an impact on what they’ve been able to roll out on Queen St over the last week in response to COVID-19.…
Weekly Roundup – 01-May-20
It’s Friday again so here’s another roundup of things that caught my attention this week. Skypath Feedback
At the end of March, Waka Kotahi NZTA kicked off a new consultation for Skypath and in particular the focusing on the landings. This included a new design for the landing at Northcote Point that would require them to take out the remaining few houses on the eastern side of the motorway.…
AT steps up to deliver COVID emergency works
We’re living through some fairly extraordinary times of late but there there have been some silver linings. It’s been incredible to see families out together during this time. Normally quiet neighbourhoods are bustling with people walking and cycling. Even many normally busy arterials have until now been so quiet that families feel comfortable enough riding on them with their children.…
Weekly Roundup – 24-Apr-20
It’s another Friday so here’s a roundup of news you may not have seen. Auckland Transport’s new homepage
I have long been frustrated by AT’s user-unfriendly website that has what should be even basic information hidden many layers deep and often across multiple pages.…
