Flashback Saturday: I want to be a super transport model
Every weekend we dig into the archives. This post by Stu was first published in November 2015.
In Matt’s recent post about MoT’s work on the future of transport, there was an interesting little side-discussion about transport models, and in particular the travel demand forecasts which emerge therefrom.…
Takapuna Carpark Consultation Results
As well as the Skypath news yesterday, on Wednesday the results of the consultation on what to do with the Takapuna carpark were announced.
In an independent survey conducted by Colmar Brunton, 69% of people preferred one of the two development proposals.…
SkyPath Funded
A great announcement yesterday, with the Government confirming it will fully fund SkyPath. The government has announced it will fully fund a walking and cycling link across the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
It has confirmed this afternoon that $67 million of the National Land Transport Fund will be invested in the link, known as SkyPath.…
Bus trade-offs and hospitals
Bernard Orsman seems to be on a campaign against the new bus network in recent weeks. After a few beat-ups over school buses he’s now turned to how the new bus network affects people travelling to Greenlane Hospital: Auckland’s elderly are rattling their Zimmer frames at Auckland Transport for “dumping” them on the roadside to receive medical treatment at Greenlane Clinical Centre.…
Auckland needs Healthy Streets
A couple of weeks ago there was an excellent ‘Auckland Conversations‘ talk by Lucy Saunders, who heads up the Healthy Streets initiative in London. Here are the videos of the event: Healthy streets is an excellent concept, tying together many of the different strands that we have pushed for over the years into a single concept of making our streets healthier places to be.…
Do we need a light rail early works programme
The government have been strong supporters of light rail in Auckland, it’s even built into their support agreement with the Greens where it notes:
Work will begin on light rail from the city to the airport in Auckland
The NZTA have been tasked with building it but they’re only in the early stages of process and given the size and complexity of a project like light rail, it could take years before any construction agreement is signed.…
Transport Growth Networks – North and Warkworth
Most of the focus in all of the transport plans and policies released over recent months have understandably been on transport projects within the existing urban area. But over the coming three decades, billions will also be spent by the council and government to open up farmland in the North, Northwest and South for new homes and businesses.…
New infrastructure agency seems like a good idea
Last week Infrastructure Minister Shane Jones announced the creation of a new government infrastructure entity. It seems that much of the work this new entity will do is currently undertaken, poorly, by Treasury’s existing infrastructure unit.
A new independent entity will be established so New Zealand gets the quality infrastructure investment it needs to improve long-term economic performance and social wellbeing, Infrastructure Minister Shane Jones has announced today.…
August-18 AT Board Meeting
Tomorrow is the next Auckland Transport board meeting. As usual I’ve been scouring through the papers to see what interesting items the reports contain. There’s a bumper crop of information in month, not all of which can fit in this post.…
Flashback Saturday: Subsidies for Electric Vehicles – How do you like them lemons?
Every weekend we dig into the archives. This post by Stu was originally published in May 2016.
Imagine, for a moment, that I was trying to sell you a bag of organic lemons. Now imagine that my bag of organic lemons costs 25 times the normal price.…
