Should council investment follow where growth occurs?

A couple of days ago Deputy Mayor Penny Hulse raised a point that I’ve suggested from time to time for years, that the council’s investment should match the areas experiencing the most growth. It was part of an article in which she also decried the argument used by some in the recent Unitary Plan debate that suburbs close to the city should not have any change as they are “aspirational suburbs”, something she calls distasteful.…

Auckland Conversations: Skye Duncan video

On Tuesday evening was the latest Auckland Conversations event, with Skye Duncan, Global Street Design Director at NACTO. If you weren’t at the event here’s the video. Over 1.2 million people die on global roads each year from traffic injuries. We keep a close eye on what’s happening with public transport patronage in Auckland and to a lesser extent in Wellington. Other than the fact that these are the two biggest PT regions in New Zealand it’s also because they are the ones with relatively easy monthly data available. …

John Key visits Aotea Station

Inner West cycle consultation

Auckland Transport have started consultation on cycling networks for the inner west of the isthmus which is being funded as part of the governments urban cycleway funding. A bit like they did with the Glen Innes consultation, AT are asking about what people want to see for the whole network rather than just one route.…
