Changes to Transport in the Auckland Plan
The changes to the draft Auckland plan have been coming out recently and finally the section on transport has come up. A report on the changes can be read here, and an updated version of chapter 11 (the transport chapter) is here.…
Snapper snaps Integrated Ticketing once again
Another Rudman piece today and more worrying news, this time in the form of integrated ticketing and the problems the projects is having due to in relation to Snapper. Snapper is what powers the current Hop system and is based on different technology to what will be rolled out when the real system goes live.…
Analysing the “Funding Gap”
With so much focus on the Auckland spatial plan at the moment, words of “step change”, “transformational” and “public transport led approach” being bandied around, discussion about new ways to fund this “step change” and “transformation”, and the excitement of a single Council looking at transport issues in a long-term way, it’s easy to forget that it was not even two years ago that we put together Auckland’s previous 30 year transport strategy.…
Playing in the Streets – Photos
Today saw lower Queen St transformed from a road into a playground for the Playing in the Streets event so I popped down to have a look, there were plenty of people around but it definitely didn’t feel crowded. Here are some photos (sorry they won’t be as good as Patrick’s) There were also some demonstrations like this gymnastics one.…

The New Intensity

Transport Funding Options – My preferences
A few days ago the council asked the question about how we should pay for Auckland’s transport infrastructure as they have estimated that over the next 30 years that their is a $10b-$15b funding gap. Of course one of the big elephants in the room is that the transport shopping list is quite long and contain a huge amount of motorway projects but I don’t want to discuss that.…
Event Reminder – Playing in the Streets
This is a reminder for what looks to be an excellent event happening this Sunday. It will be really interesting to see Queen St converted for pedestrian use and something I hope we continue to see much more of.
For the first time ever, from Customs Street to Wyndham Street, we’re kicking out the cars and turning Queen Street into one big sports park!…
