Using the new AT HOP card
In just a few short weeks the real HOP card card rolls out to the rail network. At platforms people may have seen the ticket machines which can be used to purchase single tickets and also will be used to top up HOP cards and they may have also seen the the tag posts at the various entry points.…
Thinking about fares – Some perspectives on zones, products, and concessions
As many of you will know, Auckland Transport (AT) recently released the draft Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP). One of the more interesting parts of the plan relates to fare systems, which proposes to establish several geographic zones that more or less radiate out from the city centre, as well as some changes to ticket products.…
News Flash: Old Stuff Costs a Lot to Run
The owners of any heritage cars or buildings will tell you that it costs a lot to keep them operating in good condition. Well it’s not surprising that the same is true for our trains, some of which were actually museum pieces before Auckland bought them and put them back to work for another 20 years.…
Buses sign up with Thales
This media release somehow passed us by last week, but is welcome confirmation that Thales will now provide the bus ticketing solution for all operators in Auckland – along with trains and ferries:
Auckland Transport said today, it was pleased to confirm Auckland’s bus consortium has advised its members will install Thales hardware on their bus fleets as part of the preparation towards Auckland’s integrated ticketing system.…
Train Ticketing changes tomorrow
Tomorrow is going to be a pretty historic day for the rail network, for probably the first time ever there will be a change to how ticketing is done for trains in Auckland. Rolling out the AT HOP card
With confirmation that Snapper have been kicked out of the integrated ticketing project, the rollout of the AT HOP card is now underway. This will start first on the trains, as detailed on the MAXX website. The biggest change is that we are (finally) shifting our ticket sales away from the 1920s approach of selling them onboard:
On-board ticket sales are being phased out
Get used to buying your ticket before you board.…
The Snapper/HOP debacle finally resolved?
Well I chose a rather dramatic couple of weeks to be out of the country – I come back and it seems as long last we might have sorted out the integrated ticketing problem and finally given Snapper the boot. Good riddance I say!…
Fried Snapper
Snapper is gone. This from AT:
Auckland Transport Chief Executive, David Warburton, said this afternoon, in the interests of protecting Aucklanders’ money and progressing the essential outcome of a first-class integrated ticketing programme for public transport in the region, Auckland Transport has terminated its participation agreement with Snapper Services Limited.…
Snapper/HOP fiasco continues
Some interesting developments today in the ongoing fiasco, with Auckland Transport now apparently denying they’ve kicked Snapper out of negotiations to provide the bus solution on NZ Bus services. Here’s the latest report:
Auckland Transport is denying speculation that Snapper been dumped from a project to unite the city’s public transport infrastructure under a single electronic billing system.…
