2013: A year in review – Part 4
In the final part of my year in review – and which counts as the last post of the year I’m going to look back on the blog.
I think it’s fair to say that this has been a massive year for the blog from pretty much any measure you look at (and plenty of things that can’t be measured).…
Deloitte Patronage Growth report
I think it’s fair to say that we’ve been pretty disappointed with patronage results over the last year or so (longer for rail). After about 7 years of almost constant growth we saw patronage decline and then flat line with it only just starting to show signs of turning around.…
TomTom’s Congestion Index Report
TomTom have released their annual congestion rankings and reported that Auckland is the 17th most congested city in the world.
The City of Sails is fast becoming the City of Snails, and is rising on a list of the world’s most congested cities compiled by navigation firm TomTom.…
The Mt Roskill Spur
One project on our Congestion Free Network that appears to have caught the attention of a few people has been what we call the Mt Roskill Spur. We’ve been getting some queries about it like what it is, why have it on the CFN and how much does it cost.…
How the CFN fixes Council’s budget problems
Before last week’s distractions, there was an NZ Herald article which discussed key issues with Len Brown over the coming three years. Perhaps the most interesting part of that article was the focus that Len put on looking again at the Council’s budget.…

Auckland Geography works against roads
When I first started reading this op-ed in the heralds motoring section the other day I thought “here we go, this is sounding like someone wanting to push some form of petrolhead nirvana”
Paul Charman says stop your complaining and celebrate the people who get us through the Queen City’s roading maze
If quantum physics allowed it, somebody should journey back to 1840 and shoot Governor Hobson.…
Northern Busway Success
While searching for some images for a previous post, I happened to come across this cartoon from February 2008. I doubt there are many today who would still suggest that the busway is a white elephant but the description of it as one back in 2008 doesn’t surprise me considering other major public transport infrastructure – like Britomart – also get similar labels but often turns out to be an outstanding successes.…
A Wellington CFN
This is a cross post from Generation Zero whose Wellington team were perhaps felling a little left out our Congestion Free Network
By now you will hopefully have heard about the alternative transport vision for Auckland we’re pushing alongside the Auckland Transport Blog team; the Congestion Free Network.…
