Rail boardings per station
I have been meaning to post this table for ages, because it shows us some quite interesting information on Auckland’s rail network. I’m not sure whether this is an average, or whether it’s just on one particular day, but it does provide us with some useful information.…
Onehunga: good news?
After my post the other day, complaining about the lack of progress on building the train station at Onehunga as well as some concerning signs on the ProjectDART website, it seems as though some of my concerns have been alleviated. The ProjectDART website says this:
Work is now well underway on the rehabilitation of the Onehunga Branch Line, which is scheduled to open for passenger rail services in 2010.…
What’s happening at Onehunga?
I have asked various people from ARTA this question over recent times – “what’s happening at Onehunga, when’s the railway line opening?” I have received assurances on a number of occasions that the line will be opening in mid 2010. I must say I’ve been a bit skeptical of this, as when you visit Onehunga and have a look at where the station should be, you see this: This was taken a while ago, but I was in Onehunga briefly today and it didn’t seem like anything had changed.…
What can ARTA do about our trains?
In a typically well thought out comment on my recent post that ARTA should focus on getting the train system sorted before getting stuck into all these bizarre promotions they have going on, Nick R pointed out that I was perhaps being a little bit harsh on ARTA and that the problems being experienced by our rail system at the moment are – just like they’ve been for years – the result of decades of neglect.…
Onehunga Line: the good and the bad news
Well there is some good news to report on the Onehunga Line, and some bad news (well, no news is bad news in this case). The good news has emerged from the answer to a parliamentary question about whether the Onehunga branch would be included in the electrification project – which was a point of debate back in August when it seemed like there would be some serious cutbacks to electrification.…
2010
Well I suppose as it’s now the New Year we can roll out that crystal ball and have a bit of a think about what will happen this year – 2010. As an aside, I’m still not sure whether we’ll the year “twenty-ten” or “two-thousand-and-ten”.…
Additional trains for Xmas Shopping
ARTA seem to finally be getting the message that public transport might be useful for more than just workers in the CBD going about their commuting (last Sunday’s experience notwithstanding), with their announcement that there are going to be extra trains running on the Eastern Line to provide good access to Sylvia Park shopping mall – during its extended opening hours.…
Onehunga – the next Helensville?
It has been disappointing to see the Helensville train service cut, seemingly largely because only one train each way per day was provided, and also because the train took too long and ran at a pretty unhelpful hour of the day.…
Onehunga Line Information
I don’t have much time to write a big long post on the matter, but the ARC’s Transport and Urban Design Committee’s agenda includes a big long article on the reopening of the Onehunga Line and in particular the location of the Onehunga Railway station.…
Onehunga Meeting – reporting back
Well I attended the open evening on the reopening of the Onehunga Branch Line this evening, and it was reasonably enlightening. It was good to catch up with a few fellow public transport advocates, and in general I think ARTA must have been extremely pleased with the turnout for the evening.…
