Tactics for the second HOP changeover
At the moment we’re going through a rather challenging process of changing over from Go Rider cards to HOP cards on all NZ Bus services. North Star buses swapped over a couple of weeks back, Go West and Waka Pacific will change over this coming weekend, while Metrolink and Link Buses will make the swap in a couple of weeks time.…
HOP: the bigger challenges are yet to come
The first week of the HOP card rollout seems to have passed by without too many horrific stories. On Friday the NZ Herald reported that some people were trying to jump back onto their bus when they remembered they hadn’t tagged off (if you don’t tag off you can be charged the longest fare of that particular bus route).…
A smooth(ish) start for HOP
The NZ Herald reports that implementation of the HOP card got off to a reasonably smooth start on Sunday and Monday:
North Shore commuters gave tentative support yesterday to an early version of what will become a seamless integrated ticket for public transport throughout Auckland.…
HOP begins
Despite my misgivings over the details of the HOP/Snapper rollout, it is worth celebrating the launch of the HOP card on North Star buses today. I topped up my HOP card on Friday, as sometimes I catch the 5.05pm 005 bus and it’s usually operated by North Star.…
HOP video
This is great: Though I must say I’m not sure whether the 40% university discount will be available on the e-money version of HOP. Could someone from Auckland Transport (or anyone else) clarify this matter?
(Note: this isn’t an official video – it’s far too cool for that).…
Upcoming PT improvements
The Business Report from Auckland Transport’s April Board Meeting contains quite a lot of interesting information – in terms of hinting at a number of upcoming PT improvements, highlighting some real funding squeezes thanks to NZTA funding being largely dedicated to motorway building and providing some updates on infrastructure projects.…
“Hop” onto North Star buses from May 8th
Well it seems the roll-out of the Hop Card is finally actually underway, with it being accepted on North Star buses from May 8th (not this coming Sunday, but the Sunday after that). Here’s what Auckland’s transport said today in a media release:
On 8 May HOP cards with a Snapper logo will replace Go Rider cards on North Star buses.…
More HOP/Snapper confusion
There has been a lot of debate, discussion and distress in the last couple of weeks over the introduction of the HOP card. Another article, this time in the Dominion Post, highlights some of the problems facing the HOP card’s roll out over the next few months.…
HOP Answers
Last week I posed a few questions about how the HOP card would work – and in particular how it will integrate with the Snapper card system that it seems HOP will start off using. The reason I posed the questions was simply because I found the whole HOP launch very confusing and frustratingly lacking in detail about how it would work.…
Rudman sheds light on Hop/Snapper confusion
The launch of the Hop Card last week did seem rather odd, as it was accompanied by so many unanswered questions – particularly around its rollout timetable and how the Hop Card would integrate with the Snapper Card. While my questions remain unanswered by Auckland Transport, it would seem as though Herald columnist Brian Rudman has either had a bit more luck than me, or he’s managed to wade through the mess and actually work out what’s going on.…
