    1. agree, Auckland buildings are boringly consistent in tones of white, grey, beige and alterations of light blue, so a touch of bright colors is always good 🙂

  1. I like the Ivy. It has turned an average corner building into something quite special. The all round awning is a nice touch for customers (which is what the Ivy is hiding after all).

  2. Looks much better with the Ivy – and it’s not like we have this so often it looks boring.

Agree that it can be a trouble for the building, but with maintenance and proper buiding substance one can deal with that. After all, there’s houses that had ivy for decades and still stand 😉

  3. How would it react in an earthquake? Would it be helpful in the event of parapet falling off? What is the added load wet? I feel it softens the street scape and is an improvement however it will add to building maintenance costs (which may or may not be a factor if it is not covered in the lease).

  4. Have you seen the Victoria Avenue, Wanganui hanging gardens. About 10 to 15 years ago the changes that these made to Wanganui were quite astounding and they have maintained and progressed since.

  5. Lots of impermeable hard surfaces in that area with little green space, not including the tiny reserve and berm across ths street. A photo in context would help to show how the ivy has softened and breathed life (literally) into that little block.
