Our GiveALittle campaign to cover server hosting costs was a huge success.

As a result, we’ve moved our hosting on to a more grunty server with more memory, and we have enough in the bank to cover hosting costs for at least the next twelve months.

We think there is a lot of latent demand to see transport improve in Auckland, which is why this month we are kicking off a campaign to spread the word on the Congestion Free Network.  The campaign will raise awareness with the general public via flyers, posters and one or two billboards around town.  These are already in production, so look out for them in the coming days.

To provide financial support for the campaign, we’ve set up a new GiveALittle cause specifically to help fund the promotion of the Congestion Free Network, which we’ll be running for the month of September.  All donations made via GiveALittle will go to a ring-fenced fund with the Campaign for Better Transport, a registered incorporated society. In conjunction with Generation Zero, the funds will be used to help fund the production of flyers, posters and other marketing material for the Congestion Free Network.

So please help spread the word by giving a little, and make the Congestion Free Network happen faster.

  1. Maybe you could give a questioner to all council candidates about it, and have the question answers included in the flyers (only the candidates in the relevant wards of course) before the election, so people who support the CFN can know who to and who not to vote for in the election

    1. The blog has always been about political lobbying — the point is and has been to get different transport policies put in place. That is different from being partisan.

  2. Our primary aim is to aggregate and disseminate information and analysis in order to get better policy outcomes and a better city for all. Investment decisions are of course political and we do spend a lot of time and effort dealing directly with politicians at all levels and of all stripes.

However the blog does not represent nor favour any particular political group or Party. We just want the best decisions for Auckland and New Zealand by whoever is responsible at whatever level from Council staff, private providers, all the way up to Cabinet Ministers.

  3. My complements on the flyer, my 2 year old (nearly 3 now) loves it, so good visual design. He spent nearly a hour following the routes with his fingers making bus and train sounds.

    1. My rule of thumb in messaging and design is that a six year old should be able to understand it (there are exceptions, but they should be few). If a two year old can understand it, all the better!

  4. Before a cent is spent on printed materials, please have them seen to by a copy editor. Grammatical errors diminish the project’s image. For one thing, the entire project should be called the “Congestion-free Network” not the “Congestion Free Network”. Also, adjacent panels in the “what is” graphic above have conflicting uses of it’s/its in the same context (hint: the usage is abbreviating “it is”, so the apostrophised version is correct).

This isn’t hard, but it makes an enormous difference to perceptions if materials present both a high-quality visual message and a high-quality written one.

    1. Any good copy editors out there let us know, very keen to have better word heads to run things past. Lots more to come so totally agree good to try and get stuff right…..

  5. Can I donate to receive a copy of the CFN map as an Adobe Illustrator file? Needing it for my masters project… Thanks in advance.
