Well a pretty amazing and unexpected day today. My fiancee Leila was due to have our baby on July 14th, but it seems that the little thing was a bit impatient and couldn’t wait that long. Cue very hurried labour and a gorgeous little girl born at 12.04pm today. While she’s a bit smaller than average – due to her being five weeks early – she’s in good health. Hopefully by the time she’s a teenager she’ll be able to ride trains through the central city, out to the airport and potentially with a North Shore line not being too far away.

Blogging might be a bit light in the next wee while (although I am off work, so there might potentially be even more posts than usual). Now, just need to think of some names.

  1. Congrats! yes, a few weeks early can be a worry, but with the right care all’s well. (speaking as someone whose daughter was in an incubator for 10 days…)

  2. Fabulous to have a healthy new baby, great news. I don’t imagine you will be calling her Joyce….

    1. Much less Stephanie-Joyce!

Congratulations on the beginning of a great journey. It really is life-changing (in a good way if my experience is anything to go by).
Now we just have to make NZ a place where our children choose to stay…or at least return to.

  3. Names?
I suppose it depends on how much you expect her to be involved in transport.
There’s ‘Annie’ or ‘Clarabel’ from Rev Awdry’s books.
Go mystical with Debranua – a goddess of speed.
There is a wealth of possibilities – but ask yourself if she will love you for your choice when she is older.

  4. Baby gnomes are so cute! Congratulations to all three. Just remember Josh – no matter what your aspirations are she may end up choosing to be a highway engineer. If so, then you just have to smile and laugh and appreciate life’s little ironies :). All the best, take care!

  5. Congratulations to the 3 of you. It’s inspiring to think she’ll be able to grow up with much better expectations for her city than the fading era of auto addiction, sprawling suburbia, heritage demolition, etc. You’ll be a very good role model for her.

  6. Congratulations!

Don’t worry about her size, I was born very tiny four weeks early and now I’m six foot four and 100kg!

  7. Awww, that’s just super! Take as much time as you need, I’m sure there’s plenty of people out there willing to take it on board to de-rail Steven Joyce – Colossus of Roads!

  8. Weeeeeellll, and here I was wondering why you were so silent on the email front in recent weeks! Yep, that would be more important by far.

Congratulations!!! And say hi to Leila from me and Elizabeth. Enjoy picking out a name!

  9. Congratulations to you, Leila and Amalia, she is truly beautiful albeit small, and if she is anything like her sister you are gonna have your hands full 😛
