    1. Ah, but ’tis is only one of many project currently going on to “complete the western ring route”. Lots of expensive flyovers to come for Unsworth Heights next!

    2. And time will tell just how much it contributes to “solving” Auckland’s transport woes.

    3. Helen spent the money on a tunnel so her voters wouldn’t have to see a road through their electorate.

    4. 5+ billion dollars? Does that amount to the entire ring route – 40+ km of motorway. You would hope it would cost more than twice the cost of the CRL.

  1. Looking forward to seeing a mixed use development get underway at Wiri, once the quarry is filled in sufficiently. Any info on that aspect anyone can share?

    1. Don’t think it will be mixed use as pretty sure it’s destined to be industrial land. Also suspect AT will need to expand EMU depot

  2. Reminded of the poem by Shelley, Ozymandias.

And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

  3. Hello its Phil here. I’m so tired of driving round the M25 I just can’t wait to do the Auckland Loop. The M25 was “the road to hell”. Whats this one to be called?

  4. I believe that there will be severe restrictions on what can and cannot be built on the old Wiri quarry site because of the land’s proximity to the Auckland Airport. A read of one proposal to build up a Greenmount style of artificial hill there, which Manukau City was all for because of its wind break effect, but the airport put its foot down firmly on that one simply because it would be on the flight path for aircraft taking off and landing at the airport.
