This was from just before Christmas showing the newly upgraded Bledisloe Lane. The oppressively low canopy was removed, paving replaced and Bledisloe building facade repaired. The space has a much better feeling to it now and so much more pleasant to walk through.
Now we need Metro Centre building to open up onto the lane to really help activate it, something I believe the council are keen on too.

The paving changes from red at the Aotea Square end to grey at the Wellesley St end with white pavers connecting the two colours.
It is desperately needed for the Metro building to be opened up onto the new lane. This must be the most claustrophobic building in Auckland with the possible exception of the gun emplacements at North Head.
Be fair now… At least those gun emplacements have narrow slot windows 😉
It s certainly an improvement, but the small glass canopy will barely keep out the rain
Indeed, It’s basically a giant Adshel bus shelter in terms of resilience against the weather — useless.
Agreed – anyone would think the urban designers dont live here. Anyone who does knows it rains a lot in Auckland.
That’s what umbrellas are for
I quite like it as its a million times better than the dark alleyway it was before.
What is happening with the Bledisloe building anyway? Does the revamp to the lane indicate that it will be refurbed once the council move out?

They are moving the main customer service area into Bledisloe – so that lane becomes the front porch as it were.
