The NZTA and OPUS are conducting a travel survey looking at the travel patterns of New Zealanders and in particular looking at future anticipated changes in travel patterns in the future. While the survey is open to anyone they are focusing primarily on those who are in the 15-35 age bracket. By filling it in you can also win $1,000 worth of vouchers.
How do you want to be able to travel in the future? The NZTA and Opus are currently conducting an online survey which needs your opinions to inform upcoming transport infrastructure investment reviews.
All respondents to this approximately 20 minute long survey can enter a prize draw for $1000 worth of vouchers* of the winners choosing. Note that there is a particular focus on those aged 15-35 years, however, anyone can participate as the perspectives of a cross-section of New Zealanders are desired.
If you are interested in participating or would like further information about the survey, please click here before Monday the 4th of August 2014. Please also feel free to share this link with anyone else you think may like to participate.
It should be interesting to see what the outcomes of the survey are.

Seems an appropriate post to piggyback on! We’re (Jacobs) also doing some research for NZTA on the value of travel time savings. As part of the “next steps” in the project we’re doing a trial SP survey. The focus is on car drivers at this stage as there’s a load more to consider when looking at other modes. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DQV89Z5
We’re interested in both the responses to the questions, but also the survey design. One limitation we’re aware of I’d the likely bias due to trip purpose, but tricky to workaround given most people don’t travel for other purposes as much as commuting!
I was not keen on how they framed a question near the beginning talking about the independence of having a driving license. Apart from that potentially quite interesting topics from the NZTA. Guessing this flows on from the reaserch put out to tender towards the start of the year?
Yes I agree, no where else did they ask about the freedom of having good cycle lanes and frequent PT. Seems like they put that in with the intention of someone like Brownlee using it as a soundbite for the NZ Herald to present as supposed proof that the 1950’s dream of a car = freedom.
Yeah, that one irked me too. Made sure I answered it in a way that indicated I didn’t equate a driver’s licence with freedom. Mostly it was a fair survey, and I liked the “People like me don’t use public transport” question – ranked it “Strongly Disagree”.
Generally I thought it was a fair survey, having expected a lot of steering towards “Driving uber alles” from that “driver’s licence==freedom” one being very near the start. Lots of places to argue that our PT is inadequate but if it was improved I’d use it more, and weighed in hard in the free-form comments about how I think public transport fares absolutely must not increase just because there’s an improvement to service levels that are, as I put it, “inadequate”.
Suggest everyone in here complete it. We’re a heavily biased audience, and since my invitation to fill it in came via the AA our bias should help cancel out some of that organisation’s membership’s biases.
“Slightly” older than 35 but I have completed the survey.
So, this is a self selected survey advertised through the AA. No wonder NZTA never know what they are doing.
Completed.
