Including Westhaven Dr I count about 13 lanes of traffic of which only one is a dedicated bus lane. Also not much in the way of active modes although that is currently being remedied.

It actually hits fifteen for a short section!
At Pt Chevalier, we will also have 15 (when including Great North Road).
I wonder how they will look like in a 100 years. Deserted (at least further out of town where land values will be low) or reclaimed from the concrete and asphalt?
Perhaps we can widen it a bit to get some more bus lanes. Jerry might go for it.

That is hideous. Even the lanes themselves seem overly roomy. Talk about ruining the landscape…
It might just be that the SUVs are skinnier in St Mary’s Bay.
Yet, unbelievably, the St Mary’s Bay Residence Association is very concerned about the impact of a few cyclists crossing the Harbour Bridge. They may be able to hear the sound of their tyres on the Tarmac, or something, who could know? Or perhaps all cyclists are communists or something, anyway, thankfully there are all those god fearing lanes of righteous traffic between those good citizens and whatever evil may befall the sea edge. Imagine the suffering of having to be in Northcote where some humans Not In A Car may appear…!

So superior… clearly it’s this many lanes wide in order to safely service the lanes on the harbour bridge, the different motorway routes to the south and the fanshawe street exit. Yes it creates a wide piece of tarmac, but most of us probably use it and benefit from it. It would be hard to see how it could be any narrower. This blog seems to constantly undermine its great work with stuff like this.
So your argument is: This is what is, therefor so it must be. Really? That’s it? Nothing can ever be different than what currently exists. A career in traffic engineering awaits.

How terrible does that pedestrian bridge look!
Actually the pedestrian bridge is pretty badly designed. I had an appointment in the Marina area once and was insane to take this route instead of just crossing Fanshaw somewhere else. It is terribly hot in there and the fumes from below, which, although it is fully covered bridge, get somehow into it, make you feel like a piece of smoked bacon…. I am actually looking forward to Skypath and better access to that area
Of course the real problem of the pedestrian bridge is simply the distance it has to cover; pretty hard fro this to anything other than a barrier.
And to think the geniuses that think this is a good thing want to blow another $5 billion adding six more lanes through here… got to stop this madness; when is enough, enough?
Where are they going to fit another 6 lanes especially as there is a lot of wealth and influence on both sides of St Marys Bay? And even if that miracle was managed, what are these going to connect to, given the Harbour Bridge has only 5 lanes one way at peak?
In one word , “tunnels” – they’re the future!

That picture put in my mind the quote from the “Wind the willows”, by AA Milne about messing baout in boats.

And then immediately I thought that if you replaced “boat” with “car” in that quote you could well document the thinking of the original creators of this mess, and their successors who want even more lanes added.
