While an upgrade would be ok, don’t we have areas in higher need of attention given the budget blow out AC are looking at for 2014-15? Or defer some works?
Boy do they need attention but that needs to be private investment driven with council chipping in on roading / footpaths.
Perhaps true, but this square is extremely well used and is in a pretty sorry state. The bollards could of course have already been moved such that it operates as an actual square prior to the proper upgrade. It’s small easy fixes like that that I wish we’d see more of in Auckland. Instead we always seem to have to wait until a full-blown upgrade takes place before seeing anything.
We stopped off there for a while on Saturday night. Get rid of the cars, add some bean bags and it’d be pretty good. The cars ruin the ambience around the entire square and area to be honest. Some lighting behind trees would be cool. Maybe some BBQ tables or similar to enable people to eat and converse?

Sorry yes! My bad.
Does anyone know what is being built where paris texas was?
This building was largely demolished to allow access to upgrade the Queen St building that backs on to this site.

Late night/early morning mistake
Never seen it from that position, looks better than sitting in the middle of it.
Someone once told me this was a typical Auckland square. Because like all of Auckland, it was not complete unless cars were allowed too.
Didn”t some poor fellow lie unnoticed for a day in the shrubbery after falling from a building into that park a few years back?
It has not aged well… cheap materials used in that 1990’s upgrade.
