Well Merry Xmas everyone. I’ve finished with work for the year and a couple of weeks of very nice holidays beckon. It’s likely that my posting will reduce in frequency over the next couple of weeks, particularly in early January as I’m going to be out of Auckland for a few days. I think it’s unlikely there will be any major transport stories, although it will be interesting to follow the works done to the rail corridors over the Xmas break.

As a Xmas present here’s a truly awesome video of the Maglev Train linking Shanghai with its Airport:

  1. I often think that if we had a real govenment committed to getting us out of recession we wouldn’t have a half-arsed cycleway, we’d have a program to deliver a 125 (kph, not mph) electric train service for the “golden triangle” of Auckland/Hamilton/Tauranga/Auckland…

    Anyway, merry Xmas all!

  2. Merry Christmas Josh, see you in 5 weeks…

I remember watching a show that said if they put one of those Maglev in a vacuum tube they could get up 5000 kms an hour, absolutely no friction…

  3. Hmmm… They are hacking back the trees and bamboo on the rail corridor outside my apartment. I guess this is in preparation for the lines. Looks a bit open now. Hopefully they can do something about the graffiti covered wall that I now get to look at.
