If you can get along to this event on Sunday I think it will be well worth the effort:
Compared with most other transport projects, cycling infrastructure is incredibly inexpensive to implement and can lead to significant benefits: including reduced pollution, reduced congestion and – perhaps most of all – reduced health costs in the longer run as it’s great exercise.
I just love seeing what Copenhagen has done for cycling:

There were about 4-500 people there I reckon. Would have been good to get more for what was apparently the first ever rally held at Queens Wharf. That said apart from Mike Lee delivering an excellent speech on behalf of Len Brown, Nikki Kaye, Jacinda Arden, Keith Locke MPs were all there.
All the speakers spoke well but the most poignant was Kay Wolfe’s husband, Roger, quite clearly a man of great strength and integrity. His message was simple – teach kids to drive properly. This echoed the BikeNZ chairman’ interesting comment about how a driving instructor reckon kids who cycle make better drivers because they already have gained valuable experience. Now, if only we could get Stephen Joyce to listen.
There were some delays in getting the message about the rally out – sadly, the volunteers were pretty overworked with cycling issues recently, so the logos and press messages and emails only started to go out about 4-5 days ago. For that short time, it was a major turnout!
And yes, I did like the “drivers should know how to cycle before they get a car license” idea. It’s been floated with pols before though, and they literally think you are trying to make fun of them – like seeing whether you will consider this “ridiculous” idea.
