Tomorrow, if you’re able to get to Panmure, you can learn a bit more about the Auckland Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative – generally known as AMETI. Here is some information on the open day:

AMETI info session to focus on Panmure

The Auckland-Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative (AMETI) will hold an information session on Saturday, 16 October.

AMETI is a series of transport projects in east Auckland to cater for the city’s growing population and improve transport options for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, freight movement and passengers on public transport.

Drop in to Panmure Community Hall, 7-13 Pilkington Road, anytime between 10am and 1pm to find out more.

There will be information available about:
Panmure intersection proposals (roundabout replacement)
The new bus rail interchange
The Lagoon Drive busway concept
Mountain Road to Fraser Road link investigations

There will also be a 30-minute presentation starting at 10.30am.

I don’t think I’ll be able to get there, so I hope that whoever is running this project (is anyone actually running it, or is that the problem?) posts all the information on the website – something that NZTA is very good at.

I have made my thoughts on AMETI quite clear in the past (in that it’s basically $1.3 billion spent while completely ignoring what’s actually causing all the problems in that part of Auckland). Let’s hope the new Auckland Council, and the integrated Transport CCO, come to their senses and basically cancel the project to start again with what’s really needed – a Southeast Railway Line.
