  1. hehe if i had to be very critical i could say the tiles are kinda tacky and 70’s but woah!!! amazing for auckland

    1. I think the tiles are to tie in the station to the towns heritage, a lot of pottery and tiles were made in New Lynn from the clay that is common in the area.

  2. Looks really good. I cant wait until they restrict the access to passengers only, so it hopefully reduces vandalism and tagging.

  3. Very cool! Two points:

Why not install the overhead wires for the electric trains now. Surely that would be easier than either closing the station to install them later or doing the work at night.

The platforms seem to be a bit pinched around the escalators. They probably didn’t want to dig the trench any wider for lots of reasons. I think I would have looked at staggering the escalators somehow so as to avoid platform bottlenecks if the station turns out to be a huge success (and you need to look ahead 100 years when designing an underground station).

    1. The wires are two separate contracts. Stupid: yes, but that’s life I guess. Waiting for the time to put up the wires could have delayed the construction of this project.

I hope there’s room for ticket gates upstairs.

    1. Not sure if that’s a good thing, their subway stations were some of the most decrepid stations I’ve ever seen 😉

It does have a real subway feel to it – gives us an idea of what the CBD stations will potentially look like.

  4. I’m not the biggest fan of the tiles, they end up looking very drab after a while, New York Subways are a prime example, however do understand the reasoning behind them, otherwise a very nice station, can’t wait to go have a look.

  5. The actual trench wall “tiles” (the big wavy three-dimensional topology-things) will ensure that this looks great for a long time. Similar to Joshua I am otherwise not too fav about the elevator and wall tiles, looks too much like public bathroom / swimming pool to me.
