There’s an interesting public lecture on next Wednesday up at Auckland University about the rail electrification project:

Murray will provide an overview of the project identifying the various aspects including Planning, Environmental, Aesthetics, Signals, Traction, Power, Safety and Civil Engineering. He will then explain the details of the power system and his colleague, Campbell McNaught (Traction Project Manager), will discuss the particulars of the traction system. The new state of the art signaling system will also be explained.

Murray Hood has been Director of the Auckland Rail Electrification Project since 2008. From 2001 to 2008, he undertook assignments for a range of companies including Transpower, Vector, ARTA and Goodman Properties. Prior to 2001 Murray was employed by Vector, most recently as senior manager responsible for the establishment and operation of the Project Management Group and Project Director of the design and construction of the CBD cable tunnel (Penrose to Hobson St).
