I’m a strong believer that along with police enforcement, that we should also use positive feedback to encourage drivers to drive slower. Waitemata local board member Vernon Tava posted this video showing some being done locally on Ponsonby Rd.

They did something very similar when they were rebuilding the Glenfield Road/Wairau Road intersection, a giant smiley face with “THANK YOU” for people under the temporary speed limit, and if I remember correctly “SLOW DOWN ROADWORKS” for speeders.

It was part of that temporary event, yes.
This is well known to work better than admonishment. In Italy they use smiley/frowny face signs; proven to be more effective in improving driver behaviour. It seems that we’re all desperate for approval, even from road signs.
