NOTE: post updated, the correct price is $25 or $15 for GA members.

We’re pleased to announce the third TransportBlog/ Greater Auckland movie night, on Thursday 1st October. The film is Wadjda. Once again, we’ll be enjoying the show from Capitol Cinema on Dominion Rd, with doors opening at 7:30 pm and the film starting at 8:30.

Wadjda first screened here at the 2013 New Zealand International Film Festival. It’s a special film for a number of reasons; it’s the first feature length film shot in Saudi Arabia, and the first by a Saudi woman.

Just as importantly, it’s had rave reviews, and it’s a fun, touching film about a girl and her quest to buy a bike. I really can’t recommend it highly enough – Wadjda is a great film and I can’t wait to see it again. I note that it’s in Arabic with subtitles, so please do remember your reading glasses if applicable.

Wadjda, the heroine of the film, is ten years old and sassier than a Sasquatch from Sasketoon, the largest city in Saskatchewan. She’s cool and she has a dream to own a bike, and she’s going to get there.

Tickets are available via our Greater Auckland website – the price is $25, or $15 for GA members. This includes a free drink. Thanks for coming along and supporting.

Also, we’ll probably rendezvous earlier for dinner at one of Dominion Rd’s reasonably priced eateries – you’re welcome to join us, details to follow in the comments.

    1. Sorry about that Owen, we’ve now set the door time as 7:30 to give people time to have a yarn and a drink (or an icecream, also redeemable with tickets as an alternative to a drink).
