A trend that is continuing to spread overseas is for an annual “no pants subway ride”. It’s now in its 13th year in New York and the event has now taken hold in dozens of other cities too. Here is a video from this year’s even in New York.

The Guardian in the UK has also run some pictures from other cities around the world.

Who knows, perhaps if might even spread to Auckland at some point in the future – but we would probably have to stop shutting down our rail system each summer.

  1. “we would probably have to stop shutting down our rail system each summer”

at last, the true reason for the custom emerges. 🙂

  2. Sigh I remember taking the metro in Barcelona from Gracia with only my swimware on to go to the beach in Barceloneta. Maybe my son one day will be able to do the same Cbd to takapuna…

  3. Would people even notice if we did it in NZ? There are still a lot of Stubbies on show around (admittedly, rural) NZ, and we have a propensity to bare our legs more down under, unlike the northern hemisphere, who often regard the sight of knees as something shocking… The current crop of short cut-off denim shorts means that are not really going to be seeing any more buttock than existing…
