Jarrett Walker – MRCagney, Portland – How will an integrated public transport network create a city for people? – In association with MRCagney and Auckland Transport
Friday 29 November, 1pm start
Limelight Conference Room, Aotea Centre, Auckland central

Auckland aspires to be the world’s most liveable city. We are at the start of a three-year programme to transform our currently rather complex public transport system as a key enabler of this.

At the end of this process, we will have brand new electric trains running across a much more connected public transport network with much more frequent bus services, integrated ticketing and fares, and a transformation of the public transport customer experience.

While rail will have a stronger role in the new public transport network, buses, as is the case nearly everywhere, will still form the backbone of Auckland’s public transport network and carry the bulk of the patronage.

This new public transport network needs to be a good corporate citizen, working to strengthen the places that make Auckland special, enhancing their liveability and giving significantly improved mobility choices to the people who live, work and play there.

Jarrett will draw on a number of international examples of cities comparable to Auckland, where the tricky balance between place and public transport movement has been successfully balanced and the lessons to be drawn from this as Auckland moves to be the world’s most liveable city.

From when he was here last, I know Jarrett is a great presenter so it should be quite an interesting talk.

Registration details are here.

In addition to the Auckland Conversations talk. Jarrett will also be talking at an event next Wednesday evening with the topic How Clearer Thinking about Public Transit Can Enrich Our Communities and Our Lives
