I preordered the digital deluxe edition after playing the beta. I’m going to make a casino city. If anyone else wants to we could make an Auckland Transport Blog region.
Good idea. I’m not exactly sure when I’ll get the game (not sure how well it’ll run on my current laptop) but when I do get it I’ll be keen to be involved in something like that. Maybe you could set it up?
Yeah, I can set it up. My name on Origin is Bealzebubbles. I’m not sure how the invite system works in game but if you want in then friend me. I believe that you can have up to sixteen cities per region which should be enough space for everyone.
I played the beta. Looks awesome, my only gripe is that zone density is directly tied to the adjacent road with. Two lanes is low density, four lane arterial medium, big boulevard high density.
And it’s still mono zoning, to do mixed use you have to click lots!
Oh and it barely runs on my computer, my work laptop on the other hand…
You can have high density streets and arterial roads. The type of street determines the density not the number of lanes. In the beta I was getting some medium density apartment buildings on two lane roads.
While i’ve always loved SimCity its not really a very accurate tool for city simulation. Are there any computer tools that actually do do city simulation?
It’s an american city simulation. When I started playing I was in Europe and I found some of the “rules” to build good cities were backwards to what I was used in reality. I had never seen a CBD before.
That’s a good point. The same thing struck me when I moved from the UK to NZ – I’d never heard of the term CBD yet it’s heavily used in NZ. Seems to reinforce the restrictive notion that the centre of town is just for offices..
So spent 20 minutes having a practise on my city. Then I logged off for dinner. Came back and couldn’t get on. Server disconnects, massive queues and just strange bugs. This game is massively broken.

What did you think of the beta? I found it was more simvillage than SimCity. After playing the beta I came out with a new appreciation for citiesxl
I’m trying to quit.
One does not simply quit SimCity.

I seem to recall our former blog-owner being quite the fan.
Absolutely! Anyone know the required computer specs?
Here you go.
PROCESSOR:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better or Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better
OS:
Windows XP/Vista/7
MEMORY:
2GB RAM
HARD DRIVE:
10GB HD Space
GRAPHICS CARD:
ATI Radeon HD 2×00 or better*, NVIDIA 7800 or better*, Intel Series 4 integrated graphics or better*
BROADBAND INTERNET:
Minimum 256 kbps download, 64 kbps upload
My computer is comfortably above those specs and it chugged on all but the most rudimentary graphic settings.
Yeek. Have you updated your graphics drivers? It’s likely that’s the problem if you’re well above the minimum specs.
Trust Sim City to be trotted out 😀
Yes I am also waiting for it to be released so I can give it a good thrashing 😀

Oh hell yes! So going to buy this!!! =D
Looks great, playing Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 currently so this might be a project for later in the year.
Never knew you people were also Sim City fans….^^;
I might ask my parents if I can have this game for my Birthday. 🙂
Ok. The game has now unlocked and it’s patching. When I get home from work at around 5ish I will set up a new private region.
